Choose handles

In a furniture project the choice of accessories is really important: if it is true that it is the detail that makes the difference, then it is necessary that the choice is made with care and taste. Instead they are often considered of lesser importance and therefore chosen lightly:
a classic example is the door handles, always deemed them aesthetically complementary to the doors, which obviously is not given the necessary importance.
Here then are some things to know to make the right purchase.

Meanwhile, the first thing to do is figure out what style features your door: it goes without saying that the elements should be chosen so as to give a uniform appearance to the frame.
To be clear, it would be to avoid, for example, a handle of original design for a wooden door with classical lines as well as a handle in ancient style on a glass door.

The market usually have three types of handles:

- Horizontal handles, parallel to the line of the floor;
- Vertical handles, perpendicular to the line of the floor;
- Recessed, the handle is given by an element usually square or round.

The horizontal and vertical are undoubtedly the most common while the recessed handles are used less frequently.
Usually the handles are made of metal, therefore, stainless steel, brass, aluminum; lately is quite widespread the use of an alloy called zamak, from the initials of the elements of which it is composed - zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper.

Do not forget, finally, the functional aspect of the handle that, however beautiful it may be, should allow easy opening of the door: we orient our choice to elements ergonomically designed, a model that is conducive to the conduct of the operation which it is used.

Metal handles

As noted above, the metal handles are the most common and most widespread so far the metal is brass: it is an alloy of copper-zinc industry used because very durable and easy to work. Ghidini Group is a company born in 1929 and specializes in the production of brass cutlery and handles: today it is one of the best known brands in the industry, proposing elements in aluminum, stainless steel and bronze.
Infinita belongs to the Design colection: designed by Baroni & Valeriani and made of brass, it brings together in one stylish piece parts - handle, escutcheon - which usually are separate.

For those who like a more traditional style, here is Liberty, the proposal by Linea Cali made of brass with elegant floral decorations that recall the style of the same name: it finds its ideal location on doors with classic lines, maybe in wood.

The brand Fusital belonging to Assa Abloy Italy, is on the market since 1976 and offers handles designed with the collaboration of the most important Italian and foreign designers, including Norman Foster, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid. Among the most recent collaborations is that with Ricardo Bofill that for this brand designed H 5008, Series Himalaya:
it is an element made of stainless steel AISI 316 L by rigorous and essential lines, typical of the production of the famous Spanish architect and designer.

Original handles

Karim Rashid is one of the most famous and established designers in the world and has assets of several partnerships with companies very different - furniture, furnishings and high fashion, just to point out a few examples: the brand dnd® diffusione nuovo design, owned by the Martinelli SpA, has designed a series of handles including Blip.
The inspiration comes from the sinuous curves of the female, in perfect Rashid style: the result is an element of soft lines made of chrome or satin and available in fuchsia, purple and lime green.
The ideal location is a young space, decorated in a very contemporary style.

Again of the same brand is the handle Change, designed by Sandro Santantonio, which you can change at will the coating: this operation is achieved by being able to easily replace the rectangular decorated gripping handle.
You can choose from fourteen graphic coatings and seven traditional finishes: the washer can be round or square.

It is not new to the market but has become a real classic the handle Apriti, designed by Philippe Starck in 1991 for Kleis, brand RDS Spa: it is a component, made of aluminum and available in polished chrome or silver, whose design seems to have been inspired by the famous Neapolitan luck horn.
