Characteristics of glass wool

The glass wool is made of 80% glass, to which are added silica, limestone, sodium carbonate, boron, all reduced to powder.
The compound is melted at a temperature of 1450 degrees and the magma that is obtained is passed through a rotating hood thereby obtaining the fibers.
The fibers are then subjected to different treatments that regulate the density and thickness, to then be put together, possibly, with some supporting coatings. To finish, they are cut, finished and packaged.

Fibra di vetro The glass wool is a material widely used in construction as insulation for roofs, walls and floors.
Its great qualities of thermal insulation and sound absorption are due to the fact that it is a porous material with open cells.

The panels are treated with a process that allows them to also be dripping wet, but to regain all their insulating properties as soon as they are dry again, then the material is highly resistant to moisture.

The glass wool is also safe in the event of fire, because it is not considered a combustible material and it does not develop those toxic substances that are created, however, with the insulators derived from petroleum.

Finally, another good thing to consider, is the lowest price compared to other materials, with the same thermal-acoustic skills.

Natural glass wool

In the last years, scientific research has been devoted to the study of materials that are the least harmful possible for men and for the environment. Even for glass wool have developed interesting innovations, one of which is all Made in Italy.

Isover 4+ is the new glass wool totally natural because it is made of recycled glass and sand and a special binder exclusive, patented Saint Gobain, made of sugar and lemon.

This product is completely made in Italy, as well as being a good solution for the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings, it is also an effective fire protection and is easy to install.
In addition Isover 4+ also ensures the highest quality of indoor air. This is possible thanks to the total absence of polluting substances that prevent the emission into the environment of so-called VOC, volatile organic compounds, which can cause damage to health.

Lana di vetro: Isover 4+
Here are 4 important plus of this innovation:

Well-being: as we said, the composition based on natural substances (glass, sand and a binder made of sugar and lemon), it does not cause emission of harmful substances into the environment and is not harmful to the occupants of the building. This has allowed Isover 4+ to overcome the toughest standards in the world on the formaldehyde content, thanks to the performance nearly ZERO emission of harmful substances.

Lana di vetro fatta con componenti naturali Environment: Isover 4+ allows maximum reduction of environmental impact in all its life stages: production, transportation, installation, use, disposal and recycling at end of life.
During the production phase, in fact, the CO2 emissions are minimized thanks to the composition of natural materials; the use allows high energy savings for heating and cooling the home; EPD is certified according to the analysis of the life cycle (LCA), which certifies the sustainability of the product from raw materials to disposal.

Comfort: 4+ Isover makes life more comfortable not only to the occupants of the house, but also to the workers who have to put in the work, because it is soft to the touch, easy to cut and install and is available both in rolls and panels.

Protection: Isover 4+ effectively isolates from both heat and cold, it provides protection from both external and neighbors noises and it is certified to the most stringent parameters for reaction to fire.

Where to go?

Italy is the first country in the world, within the Saint-Gobain Group, to put into production and trade Isover 4+. The establishment of Vidalengo Caravaggio (BG) of Isover realize in fact the 60% of its production for the Italian market using the new material.

With over 50 years of history, an area of about 300 thousand square meters and 72 employees, the Bergamo Isover is now one of the most modern production facilities for insulation in Italy and has played a crucial role in the development of Isover 4+ as of pilot plant for its industrialization and its commercial launch.

Glass wool: Isover Italy will be throughout 2014 and 2015, the only country in the world to produce and offer to the market the new glass wool.
